EST. 1958

The Basset Was Born.

Born from the demand of a "casual" shoe in post-World War II suburbia in the United States. Hush Puppies became instantly recognizable as a leisure casual staple of late 1950s and 1960s American life. The Hush Puppies trademark was purchased, for just $50, along with the photograph of a soft-eyed Basset Hound that would become its logo and grace millions of shoes, boxes, advertisements and displays.

From the very beginning, the revolutionary use of leather protector made Hush Puppies leather scuff, stain and water resistant and changed suede footwear forever. When any liquids came into contact with the shoe they rolled away, leaving feet dry and looking like new.

WorryFree™

Hush Puppies made "worry-free" a benchmark of its shoes and its brand attitude. In the 1980's, Hush Puppies introduced the Hush Puppies Body Shoe® and ushered in the walking shoe era. With dual-density soles and "memory foam" insoles, they "fit like your footprint in the sand."

Bounce® technology

Hush Puppies again helped "make walking easier" in 1990 with the introduction of Bounce® technology. The patented Bounce outsole "absorbed the shock of walking impact while gently moving you forward through your step." Today, Hush Puppies continues to innovate through technological advancement. The lightweight Zero G® styles, so light they are almost weightless.

Hall Of Fame.

Hush Puppies were a hit from Capitol Hill to the Hollywood Hills and from royalty to rock 'n' roll.

It didn't take long for the rest of the world to discover Hush Puppies. Celebrities like Warren Beatty, Perry Como and the "Rat Pack" sported them from as early as 1959.

Hush Puppies also made shoes exclusively for the Lansky Brother's, who were the official "Clothier to the King" - Elvis Presley Foundation. Prince Phillip of Great Britain chose Hush Puppies to wear on his 1959 visit to the United States.

ROYALTY TO ROCKSTARS.

To the bands of the 1960s, Hush Puppies were the top kit on the list.

It was reported that Hush Puppies rubber soles saved the life of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards when he accidentally touched his guitar against an ungrounded microphone at a 1965 concert in California.

Knocked unconscious, medics believed that the crepe-soled Hush Puppies shoes that Richards was wearing insulated him and saved the future of rock 'n' roll....so we're told!

In 1974, Jimmy Buffet sang, “I’ve got my Hush Puppies on” and reached #3 in the US Billboard Charts. Rod Stewart wears Hush Puppies on tour. They are manufactured exclusively by request in lilac, pink, yellow and of course leopard print.

Hush Puppies hits the 90’s Runway

American Icon.

Hush Puppies came of age as the quintessential American Brand when the demand for vintage and authentic Hush Puppies shoes made their way on the catwalks in the 90s.

Red-hot style.

Many designers such as Anna Sui followed suit by showcasing the shoes in their collections. And Paul Smith started to stock new colourful ranges.

Stage ready.

Hot the heels they were fast patronised by celebrities such as Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Liam and Noel Gallagher.
